The great state of Texas has lots of pretty great places to visit some offer their visitors a chance to walk in the footsteps of the past, others provide top notch shopping and dining experiences, and still others allow patrons to kick back and challenge themselves on the golf course.

Luckily, if you are one of those looking for a good 18 holes, Texas has got you covered with some of the best courses in the country. Some absolute “Must Plays” include:

Omni Barton Creek Hotel and Resort in Austin, Texas.

This location has two highly-rated course options in the form of the Fazio Foothills Golf Course and the Fazio Canyons Golf Course. Both courses were put together by legendary course architect, Tom Fazio, and both feature spectacular views of waterfalls, limestone caves, and fantastic greens. Fees for both courses are pretty hefty, ranging from around $150-$250 per round, but that are worth it for true fans of the game.

Pine Dunes in Frankston, Texas.

Located just a couple of hours’ drive east from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, this course is designed by course architects Jay and Carter Morrish. It may not be the spectacle that the Barton Creek’s courses are, but the price is more than fair, with fees ranging from $49-$79 per round.

Cordillera Ranch in Boerne, Texas.

This course is heralded by many as one of the best courses in the country designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. No two holes on this course are alike and the design takes complete advantage of the area’s beautiful Texas hilltop environment, wrapping around the creeks, waterfalls, and limestone cliff faces. Monthly dues range from around $601 to $800.

LaJitas Golf Resort in Big Bend, Texas.

Our owner’s personal favorite. Lajitas Texas, not known for water but somehow sustains great life.  Putting greens that strike the eye, fun that never ends, and a dry but cool at night climate.  Dallas ranks Jack Black’s Crossing a must visit, so don’t miss out.

With literally hundreds of courses around the state, there is a place for golfers of all skill and income levels, so get out there and find the one for you.
